About me

Hi, I'm Shira Shalom. I recently graduated with honors a bachelor's degree in textiles at Shenkar college.

My final project included designing an entire collection inspired by the story of my grandfather's immigration to Israel

Final Project

ALBADIMINA | אַלבַּאדִּימִנָּה

The extraordinary journey of my grandfather, Shlomo Yefet, from Yemen to Israel is the raw material for the collection of printed and knitted clothing sets: an eight-year-old orphan boy who wandered in the desert, joined together with the shepherds, until a British officer took him under his protection and helped him reach the port city of Aden and from there to the Land of Israel.
The attic with my book of roots is the starting point of the project, where I reread my grandfather's story, drifted into the research and my family along with me.

Albadimina - I am leaving you and the responsibility is on you.

My grandfather was a role model for me and my family: curious without limits and inhibitions, polymath, an expert in a variety of creative fields, and the world's first inventor of pita baking ovens for bakeries. He passed on the approach of touching a variety of fields without limitation to us, and I passed it on into the project.
I will tell the story of the journey through the clothing collection, using unique prints, patterns, different and diverse techniques, materials and colors.
At the base of the clothing collection is the overall - a cut that represents a practical garment, one whole unit without separate parts.
The overall, which symbolizes reduction and minimalism, tells the story of the person who carries his burden alone.
